Celtic are currently six points ahead of their Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table.
Charlie Adam has honestly stated that Celtic are in the ‘driving seat’ to win the Scottish Premiership title as he was critical of ‘inconsistent’ Rangers.
Brendan Rodgers side recorded a 2-0 win over Hibernian on Wednesday night [BBC Sport], while the Gers picked up a valuable three points against Aberdeen [BBC Sport].
Those results ensured that the Bhoys maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table as the Scottish Premiership enters the business end of the season.
Nonetheless, Stoke City midfielder Adam admitted that summer appointment Steven Gerrard has ‘progressed’ the blue half of Glasgow, but he was adamant that their near-neighbours have always had the edge during this campaign.
“I still think Celtic are the favourites,” Adam told BBC Radio 5 Live on 06/02/2019. “But Rangers have progressed under Steven.
“They have inconsistent performances at times, [for instance] where the Old Firm result was great, but after the break, they come back and they lose to Kilmarnock which was a big blow to them – Celtic are in the driving seat like they have been all season.”
Prior to the midwinter break in Scotland, Rangers did inflict a damaging defeat on their neighbours, but upon their return to action, they were beaten by Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock.
Nonetheless, Rodgers, who has won back-to-back titles in Scotland, will be looking to guide the club to eight in a row this season, while his former player will be looking to stop that run.
It remains to be seen what happens to the Glasgow duo between now and the end of March when they meet in what could potentially be a crucial title encounter.
But before that, the Scottish Premiership will take a break this weekend as the focus turns to the Scottish Cup which will take centre stage, with Gerrard’s side travelling to Kilmarnock and Celtic hosting St Johnstone.
