Charis Mavrias (C) scores the first goal for Sunderland against Kidderminster
Things never quite panned out for Charis Mavrias during his time in English football.
The Greek international joined Sunderland from Panathinaikos in 2013. The fee was undisclosed, but Sky Sports reported it was in the region of £3 million.
He went on to become yet another Paolo Di Canio flop. He played just seven times for the club, scoring one goal. He dropped out of contention completely in 2014 and was loaned back to Panathinaikos for the 2014-15 season.
Mavrias went on to join German second tier side Fortuna Dusseldorf on loan before finally leaving Sunderland permanently last summer.

The Greek international joined Karlsruher SC in September last year. KSC harboured hopes of promotion back to the Bundesliga this summer, after finishing seventh last term.
That has not been the case, with Mavrias only helping the German side to relegation to Germany’s third tier.

With two games left in the 2. Bundesliga campaign Mavrias’ side are bottom of the league with 25 points, nine behind Wurzburger Kickers and safety.
It has certainly not been the escape from Sunderland, who are also already relegated, for Mavrias, who will now surely be considering a future away from the Wildparkstadion.
