Eric Lichaj has just a few months remaining on his Nottingham Forest contract as it stands – and he may be on Leeds’ radar.
Eric Lichaj has been a part of the furniture at Nottingham Forest since arriving in 2013 but his long association with the East Midlands giants may be about to come to an end.
The American international is out of contract in the summer and, while negotiations over a new deal are continuing with manager Mark Warburton stating that the club are making progress, Lichaj is still yet to commit his future to the City Ground.
As such, the Nottingham Post reports that there is no shortage of US-based clubs aiming to lure the Illinois-born Lichaj back home. New England Revolution are understood to be just one of the MLS sides interested.
But the Post also states that at least two Championship sides are monitoring the situation closely too.
With Lichaj boasting plenty of Championship experience, having played over 100 games for Forest in the second tier, it is not difficult to see why the versatile and dependable 29-year-old is a man in demand.
The identity of the league rivals attempting to entice Lichaj away from Forest is as yet unknown. Perhaps Leeds United are interested in a player who played 16 games on loan at Elland Road in 2011 from Aston Villa.
The usually reliable Luke Ayling has endured a difficult run of form in recent months. And while Lewie Coyle has starred on loan at Fleetwood Town in League One, he is yet to prove himself at a higher level. And Lichaj would add some vital Championship experience to a squad made up largely of youngsters and unproven imports.
Nonetheless, the Post claims that it is likely, at this stage, that Lichaj will sign a one year extension at Forest. Which will be a relief to Warburton.
