Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall has insisted there is ‘nothing’ in claims that the Jags are close to signing Rangers winger Jake Hastie on loan – although the Thistle boss admits his side are close to adding a new winger ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Championship opener against Queen of the South.
Hastie has been named as a possible target for the Maryhill side after they completed a loan deal the take Rangers defender Lewis Mayo to Firhill.
However, despite the speculation over Hastie’s future, McCall is adamant there is nothing in the reports, saying: “We’re short of a defender and a wide player. And maybe even another forward-type player but definitely a wide player and defender.
“I’m quite far down the road of the wide playerDefender, there are two or three people I’m talking to so it will depend on what we can do.”

While McCall was open about what he felt his side was in need of, he brushed off speculation linking Hastie to the Championship new boys, saying there was “nothing in that just now.”
The Rangers winger looks set for the exit door and has been linked with a move to Dunfermline so it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
After spending much of the summer with Rangers’ B team, a move on loan makes sense to allow him to get regular football over the coming months.
Hastie’s loan spell at former club Motherwell last season never worked out well and his chances of making the grade at Rangers only look even slimmer as a result.
With Thistle aiming to push for the playoffs this season, it could be an excellent chance for Hastie to revive his career and start to put the nightmare of his first few years at Rangers behind him.
