Patrice Evra could be reunited with France pal Payet if he signs for Marseille from West Ham.
The Dimitri Payet transfer saga rumbles on with Marseille yet to meet West Ham’s asking price for the wantaway playmaker.
Marseille have made one successful transfer move though, with The BBC reporting the Ligue 1 side have successfully signed Patrice Evra from Juventus.
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo is challenged by France’s Dimitri Payet and Patrice Evra
Evra, a Champions League and Premier League winner with Manchester United, knows Dimitri Payet well from their time together playing for the France national team, and would surely love a reunion.
The left-back spoke glowingly about Payet back in the summer, and even credited West Ham for making him into the player he is, after just 12 months in East London.
He was quoted by The Mail: “I think you have to say thanks to West Ham because he went to the Premier League, where it is a different game. You can see now that he takes responsibility. When he has to shoot, he shoots and he has scored some great goals. I’m very happy for him.
“I’m not surprised by how quickly he has fitted in here. We know, and the manager knows, that Payet has quality. Now he has gone to the next level with his personality and his character. “
France’s Dimitri Payet celebrates
Last season Payet was one of the Premier League’s best players and shone at Euro 2016. This campaign has been more of a struggle with his moments of magic more fleeting.
Payet is after a move back to France to rejoin former club Marseille, and the chance to link up again with Evra is likely to appeal to both players.
