Rangers B kicked off their Lowland League campaign with a 2-0 win over Bo’ness United on a historic afternoon for the Light Blues – and Gers fans on Twitter were buzzing for the Colts after their maiden win.
Goals from Tony Weston and Robbie Ure in the second half sealed the three points at Dumbarton’s C&G Systems Stadium in glorious sunshine yesterday, with a few hundred fans lucky enough to be there to see David McCallum and Brian Gilmour’s side in action.
The Gers side featured some names that will be familiar to most fans in Leon King and former Blackpool striker Weston as the B team finally got their chance to test themselves in a senior league.
Rangers controlled play well, trying to play their way through their more experienced opponents and had to show patience before finally getting the rewards for their fine work.
It took almost 70 minutes but the goal finally came when Weston broke through the Bo’ness defence before firing beyond the keeper and giving Rangers a deserved lead.
Ure made it 2-0 in the final moments of the game, netting at the second attempt and sealing a historic win for Rangers B.
While it might be a big ask for the Colts to win the title, it loooks as though the B team have caught the imagination of Rangers fans as the Gers’ look to be vindicated after spending years arguing in favour of B teams.
Fans on Twitter were absolutely ecstatic to see the young Gers pick up the win and start the season on a high, with some suggesting they are going to go an and do a ‘league double’ with Steven Gerrard’s first-team this season.
