Scotland international Andy Robertson admits he would ‘consider’ a return to Celtic when the time comes to leave Premier League giants Liverpool, speaking to Darrell Currie’s BT Sport podcast.

The phrase ‘unfinished business’ comes to mind.

Glasgow-born Robertson, a dyed-in-the-wool, green-blooded Celtic fanatic appeared to be living the dream when rising through the ranks at the Scottish Premiership champions. That was, of course, until the dream died; the talented young left-back released before his 15th birthday.

Over a decade on, this is decision that hasn’t aged particularly well. Robertson, a 59-time Scotland international, is one of the world’s premiere full-backs these days; a Champions League and Premier League winner to boot.

And Robertson, who turns 29 next year, would relish the prospect of seeing out the remainder of his career at Anfield. But should Celtic come calling, the ‘bhoyhood’ Hoops supporter would certainly have a difficult decision to make.

Former Celtic youngster Andy Robertson continues to star at Liverpool

“Every time I watch Celtic, I consider it,” Robertson says when asked if he’d ever return to Parkhead.

“When you watch them and see a packed Celtic Park… as a fan you always have that dream. Ideally, I want to finish my career here at Liverpool. If I can stay at the top of my game, at the top of the tree my whole career, that’s the route I want to go down.

“But also, when I look at Celtic and when I was growing up, I was thinking I wanted to give them my best years.

“Now I don’t want to go as a 34 or 35-year-old old guy that my uncles start hating on me because I can’t move any more! Time will tell. I’m very much a person who lives in the moment.

“I don’t look too far ahead and I don’t often look back. There will be a time for that.”

Robertson still has plenty of chapters remaining in his Liverpool story; the Scot’s contract running until 2026. And while not quite at his brilliant best, he still has three assists from eight appearances this season.

“In my opinion, he is the best left-back in the world at the minute,” beams Liverpool youngster Owen Beck. “So it’s great to have him in front of me and getting the chance to train with him.”
