Paul Merson has claimed that Wolves duo, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, have proven that their transfer business is ‘chalk and cheese’ compared to Tottenham Hotspur’s, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (12/10/22 at 1:25 pm).

The Portuguese duo will face off against Tottenham in the Premier League this afternoon and they will be hoping those words ring true.

Midfield has been an issue for Spurs for a number of years now, especially in the creative department.

Added with that, the form of their more defensive-minded, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, has dipped this season, with others, such as Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks, either trying to make a name for themselves or trying to find their form of old.

Well, following back-to-back Premier League defeats, Antonio Conte might change his midfield, with deadline day signings, Rodrigo Bentancur, in with a chance of starting against Wolves.

If he does get that chance, then it will be interesting to see how a signing, brought in by Antonio Conte, has in his locker because the early signs are pretty good.

Nonetheless, when Sky presenter, Jeff Stelling praised both Moutinho and Neves as ‘fantastic signings’, Merson shared his response.

“Of those 136 Premier League games, because they came at the same time,” said Stelling. “Moutinho’s played 130. And Neves has played 129, which is wow. Talk about fantastic signings.”

Merson responded: “Now that’s completely different to what you were talking about at Tottenham. Chalk and cheese.

“You look at the signings and recruitment they have done compared to Tottenham, it’s chalk and cheese.”

This result could have huge bearings on the race to finish in the Champions League places.

Spurs are two points ahead of the Midlands side, with a game in hand, so three points will probably push them out of the race.

But a win for Bruno Lage’s men, then it’s a different story and it only opens it up heading into the crucial months of the season.
