Darragh MacAnthony has sent quite a cryptic tweet about the player who Celtic are trying to bring to Parkhead.

The Hoops are heavily linked with a move to sign Peterborough United hitman Ivan Toney, who scored 26 goals for the League One outfit last season.

Premier League hopefuls Brentford are also in the mix but Toney is up for a reunion with Gavin Strachan, who joined Neil Lennon’s coaching staff at Celtic this summer after a spell with Posh.

MacAnthony, who is chairman of the English club, was asked on Twitter where Toney was when revealing which players would be featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly versus a mystery opponent.

Here’s how the Irishman responded to the fan:

MacAnthony’s associate, Barry Fry, revealed to The Scottish Sun this week that Toney could be worth as much as £50 million if he joins Celtic.

He might have overplayed that a little, but one or two goal-laden seasons at Parkhead and he would be attracting interest from the Premier League.

Look at Odsonne Edouard, who is reportedly on Arsenal’s radar this summer.

Toney would never be worth £50 million, given the standard in Scotland, but they could potentially make a massive profit on him at some point in the future, if – and it’s a big IF – he winds up in Glasgow.
