Tottenham Hotspur have landed a boost in their reported pursuit of Gianluca Scamacca, as Sassuolo are now open to the striker leaving the club during the January transfer window.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who report Neroverdi Chairman Giovanni Carnevali has studied Scamacca’s situation amid vast interest in the Italy forward from rival Serie A sides.

Juventus are among the teams most actively considering a move for the 22-year-old in the mid-season market. The Bianconeri are desperate to improve Massimiliano Allegri’s timid offence. They have only scored 23 goals over 17 games to sit just seventh in the standings.

The Turin outfit had explored Scamacca’s suitability for their attack in the last two transfer windows, as well. But in each market, Sassuolo showed a firm resistance to letting him go.

Juventus hold Scamacca transfer talks

Juventus vice-President Pavel Nedved and Sports Coordinator Federico Cherubini have now made a fresh approach to Carnevali to discuss Scamacca. The pair suggested a possible loan deal without any purchase clause, or an option to buy for a modest fee.

Carnevali knows he can reflect Scamacca’s form and senior Italy debut in September in his valuation. So, the Sassuolo chief is now pricing the Rome-born star above the €20m-25m (£17m-21m) price range demanded during the summer.

He will also refuse to give any discounts, but is open to granting a loan with an obligation to buy. For now, Juventus are biding their time and will continue to weigh up a possible move.

Tottenham land boost in pursuit of Sassuolo star

Carnevali’s willingness to let Scamacca leave Sassuolo in the January transfer window will come as a boost to Tottenham. Gazzetta dello Sport had cited Spurs as one of his English suitors recently, while noting interest from Inter, AC Milan and Fiorentina, plus Juventus.

Tottenham are scouting Scamacca after a lively run of form in the Sassuolo attack ahead of the transfer window opening. He has scored three goals in his last five Serie A appearances to reach five for the season so far.

Scamacca’s efforts include netting against AC Milan and Napoli – who are both fighting for the Serie A title. He drew the Neroverdi level in a 3-1 win at the San Siro. He then hit the Mapei Stadium natives’ first in a 2-2 draw at home to the Azzurri earlier this month.
