Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has appeared to confirm that Celtic have made an offer for Ivan Toney.

The Daily Record reported last night that Celtic have had their first bid knocked back for the prolific League One striker.

And MacAnthony has suggested that Celtic are far from the only interested bidder in the 24-year-old.

It was claimed last night that Brentford were on the verge of singing Toney, but reports that he was set to leave for £4 million were quickly dismissed by MacAnthony.

Celtic could, therefore, still have time to get hold of their strike target – as Neil Lennon looks to bolster his strike force before the campaign starts.

It was initially thought that Toney could be a replacement for Odsonne Edouard at Celtic, but it seems that the Bhoys now want to play the duo together.

That could be a fearsome pairing for Celtic, as they notched over 50 goals between them last campaign.

Despite Toney’s goals Peterborough failed to earn promotion from League One, which means that he is ‘unlikely’ to stick around at London Road.
