Former Arsenal and Chelsea ace Cesc Fabregas has opened up on his admiration for James Maddison while branding the Tottenham Hotspur ace a ‘fantastic’ Premier League talent.
It makes perfect sense that Fabregas would be a fan of Tottenham’s number ten.
James Maddison, after all, possesses many of the attributes that made the World Cup winner such a hit in English football with Spurs’ London rivals, sharing Fabregas’ guile, technique and goalscoring ability from his advanced midfield role.
Maddison is hitting top gear again after a lengthy injury absence too, providing an assist against Crystal Palace before finding the net in last weekend’s statement 4-0 win at rival Champions League-chasers Aston Villa.

Cesc Fabregas a big fan of one Tottenham star
“Straight away you could feel he’s got the confidence,” Fabregas tells the BBC’s Planet Premier League podcast. “He’s got the personality to demand the ball, to make things happen and to create situations.
“He’s good at dribbling, he is good at assisting and he can score goals. So he’s a really complete player in my opinion.”
Maddison is so often the man who makes things happen in the final third for Spurs, his line-breaking through balls key to releasing the pace of Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner or evergreen captain Heung-Min Son.
All four players scored at Villa Park last time out.
James Maddison can fire Spurs into top-four
“He has a good understanding with Son and the strikers,” adds Fabregas, a two-time Premier League champion with Chelsea and now the boss of Serie B outfit Como.
“For me, (Maddison) is a fantastic player to have. And, as a coach, I’m sure that you need to adapt to the strengths of your players and the better quality they have, the easier it is. And definitely he is one of them you would always want in your team.”
Tottenham face neighbours Fulham in Saturday’s teatime kick-off. A victory at Craven Cottage will see Ange Postecoglou’s side overtake Aston Villa in the final Champions League spot, at least until Unai Emery’s side face West Ham United at the London Stadium less than 24 hours later.
