Cesc Fabregas has told London World that he believes Antonio Conte could leave Tottenham if they fail to achieve a place in the top four. A loss to Arsenal on Thursday night, and Spurs would fail to leapfrog the Gunners.
The two North London rivals go head to head on Thursday night in the rearranged fixture, that now means so much in the race for fourth place. Spurs sit four points behind Arsenal, with three league games to play.
A win for Arsenal would take that lead to seven, meaning Spurs could only finish as high as fifth. But a win for Spurs would narrow the gap to just four, and give Conte’s men a chance to play for fourth place in the final two.
Arsenal icon Fabregas gave an interview to London World ahead of the clash. He believes that his old Chelsea manager, Conte, could leave Spurs if they fail to achieve fourth. Arsenal might place the nail in the coffin.
“If he doesn’t reach the Champions League or whatever objective he set at the beginning when he took the job, he’s capable of walking away. He will feel responsible. He will take it personally,” Fabregas told London World.
Fabregas explains why Conte could leave Tottenham: Arsenal win?
It is a massive game and Tottenham are probably slight favourites, only because they are at home. The game is set up perfectly and really could go either way – the only issue for Spurs, is that they probably have to win.
A draw benefits Arsenal, it keeps them four points clear with just two games to go. Arsenal then go to Newcastle, and play host to Everton – both games they are likely to win. So, Spurs need to win to stand any chance.
