Writing in his column for Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.
The journalist had an interesting update to deliver on the Reds’ plans after the signing of Erling Haaland by Manchester City.
One may imagine that the Reds’ biggest rivals purchasing Haaland may have pressured the Merseyside club into making a big-name purchase of their own to keep up with City. However, according to Romano, that isn’t Liverpool’s plan this summer.
What’s the story?
According to the Italian journalist. The Reds’ number one priority is to sign Mohamed Salah to a new deal, while he also definitively claimed that Liverpool want a new midfielder.
“The priority is to clarify the situation for Mo Salah’s contract, which is still on stand-by; certainly there is the intention to sign a new important midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni is one of the names on the Reds’ list but there is great competition from other top clubs. There has already been direct contact with his agent,” Romano wrote.

The next step
Adding a new midfielder to Liverpool’s ranks is the logical next step of their evolution.
Ibrahima Konate strengthened the defence in the summer, while Luis Diaz has made his mark on the attack since arriving in January.
Landing a new midfielder at this point in time makes a lot of sense. After all, Thiago and Jordan Henderson aren’t getting any younger, and if Tchouameni is the man they eventually settle on, they will be getting a very talented footballer indeed.
This certainly seems to be a situation worth keeping an eye on at Liverpool, and any links to new midfielders in the coming weeks should be taken seriously.
