Bayern Munich chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that reported Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara wants to leave the club, as quoted on Skysports.com.

Sport has claimed that Liverpool are close to signing Thiago from Bayern in the summer transfer window.

Rummenigge has praised the 29-year-old central midfielder, and has admitted that the Spain international is likely to part company with the German giants this summer.

Skysports.com quotes Rummenigge as saying about Thiago: “He’s a decent guy, on and off the pitch. We negotiated seriously with him and fulfilled all his wishes. But it seems that he wants to do something new towards the end of his career.

“We definitely didn’t have any contact to Liverpool at all. If he wants to do that, we have to deal with it. We don’t want to lose any player next year for free. I can say it that clearly.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Thiago made 20 starts and four substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Bayern this season, scoring three goals in the process.

The former Barcelona star has also made five starts and one substitute appearance in the Champions League for the German giants this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Good signing for Liverpool?

Thiago is a very good central midfielder who has won multiple titles with Barcelona and Bayern, and there is no doubt that he would make Liverpool a better team in the middle of the park.

There have been injury issues for the 29-year-old in the past, but when fit and on song, the Spaniard is world class.
