Everton’s Cenk Tosun is without a goal this season.
Everton take on West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend, and manager Marco Silva is facing something of a crisis in attack ahead of that game.
The Toffees are without suspended Richarlison, whilst Theo Walcott and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are both injured, with new signing Bernard still not fully fit yet either.
Much will be placed on the likes of Ademola Lookman and Cenk Tosun, and the latter needs to get going this season – especially off the back of Richarlison’s display for Brazil.
This morning, Richarlison – a left winger for Everton – was given a start leading the Brazil attack in their friendly against El Salvador, and scored twice in a 5-0 win as he shone up top.
Yes, it’s ‘only El Salvador’, but Richarlison looked like a natural as a striker, and he has shown Everton that he can certainly play in that role if the Toffees call upon him to do so this season.
That’s a major concern for Tosun, who is without a goal for Everton this season, just went another two games without finding the net for Turkey over the international break, and hasn’t scored a competitive goal since the 1st of June.
A key signing for Sam Allardyce in January, Tosun made a slow start at Goodison Park but began to turn things around towards the end of last season, scoring five in his final 10 games, and he has often impressed with his work rate and link-up play.
Yet now, with Bernard to come back on the left, Lookman and Calvert-Lewin fighting for places and Silva’s main man Richarlison capable of playing in attack, Tosun needs to start finding the net soon – or find that he loses his place to Richarlison after he threatened to become a striker on a more regular basis this morning.
