Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun may not have played too many games in the Champions League but the Spurs target steps up when it counts.

Cenk Tosun’s prolific displays in Turkey have piqued the interest of clubs across the continent.
And with good reason. At 26, Tosun could be considered something of a late bloomer but the last two seasons alone have been enough to justify speculation of a big-money move to one of Europe’s largest leagues.

Tosun scored 20 goals in 33 league games last season to inspire Besiktas to the title but you wonder whether it is the Turkish international’s record in European competition that has Tottenham contemplating a move.
Man for the occasion
Besiktas pulled off an extraordinary comeback in Europe’s premiere club competition against Benfica last season, thanks largely to a remarkable goal from their deadly number 23.
Tosun swivelled and produced a stunning bicycle kick on the angle that was justifiably voted the best goal in last season’s Champions League group stages by UEFA. In total, Tosun scored four goals in European competition last season, although they weren’t all as special as his wondergoal against the Lisbon giants.

And Tosun hasn’t made a bad start to the new Champions League campaign either, thumping home a superb long-range finish to defeat another Portuguese giant, FC Porto, last week.
While Spurs have often flattered to deceive on Europe’s biggest stage, Tosun is clearly a player who relishes in producing something special in decisive moments.
If Tottenham want to progress into the latter stages, his penchant for timely and often spectacular interventions could come in handy.
