The Celtic midfielder might play at the Africa Cup of Nations after all.
It looks like Youssouf Mulumbu of Celtic is going to start his country’s Africa Cup of Nations clash tomorrow.
Mulumbu hasn’t yet kicked a ball for the Democratic Republic of Congo in the competition.
But the 32-year-old, who joined Celtic last summer, has intimated on Twitter that he’s going to start Sunday’s final Group A game against Zimbabwe.
It’ll be interesting to see if the former Kilmarnock and West Brom midfielder has a future with the Hoops under Neil Lennon.
It was Brendan Rodgers who brought him to Glasgow last year, but then loaned him back to Killie in January after struggling for regular football under the Northern Irishman during the first half of the season.
Thing is, Celtic still have an abundance of exceptional midfielders and it’s unlikely that Mulumbu, despite being a superb player, will be able to crowbar his way into Lennon’s plans.
He made just one Scottish Premiership appearance for the champions last season, and 10 for the Rugby Park side under Steve Clarke.
DR Congo are bottom of Group A after losing both of their games so far and will not be advancing into the knockout phase.
