Celtic made a move to sign free agent Youssouf Mulumbu on deadline day and it is a move which split fan opinion.

Mulumbu watched on for the Old Firm game on Sunday and saw his new side beat rivals Rangers 1-0.

Next time out, Rangers could have to face a Celtic midfield containing Mulumbu and it will be a formidable one.

Mulumbu was one of the Scottish Premiership’s star performers last season and teams found his physicality hard to cope with.

Celtic have the option to select him in a midfield alongside captain Scott Brown and Old Firm matchwinner Oliver Ntcham.

Both players are uncompromising and powerful tacklers and together with Mulumbu they will form a terrifying midfield trio.

Celtic have other options of course, with Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor both able to offer more of an attacking threat.

Most likely he will be used as an alternative to Brown or Ntcham and rotated, but alongside the pair of them he could be dominant.

When Celtic want to protect a lead, or play a tricky game away from home, especially in Europe, Mulumbu could really become a very useful addition.

In some ways he is a luxury. Celtic were not desperate for him in the way they needed a defender, but they will be better off for having him available.
