The Celtic captain is getting tired of hearing talk about Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers taking over Scottish football.

Scott Brown is utterly unperturbed by talk about Rangers knocking Celtic off their perch next season.

Steven Gerrard has been much the busier of the two Old Firm managers this summer.

It’s been an excellent recruitment drive for Rangers, who have signed seven new players and counting, and there is a belief that Gerrard’s side could push Celtic close.

The Hoops won a historic treble Treble last season and a ninth successive Scottish Premiership title next year would take them within one of the famous 10-in-a-row.

Nevertheless, Brown, the Bhoys captain, feels that unjustified hype surrounding the Ibrox club’s aspirations is an annual phenomenon at this point, and the 34-year-old suggests that he’s growing bored of hearing the same idea that next season will be different.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I’ve heard it all before – every season. It’s part and parcel of Scottish football. Everyone wants to challenge us – but we are champions for a reason.

“We have the staying power to keep improving season after season.”

Brown, a £4.4 million signing by Celtic 12 years ago [The Guardian], might have a point. Then again, this is the Hoops’ first full season without Brendan Rodgers at the helm and time will tell if Neil Lennon can match his fellow Northern Irishman’s dominance.

Lennon has only signed two players so far this summer – Luca Connell and Christopher Jullien – but more might be needed to stave off competition from Rangers.
