Celtic midfielder Scott Brown claims of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
Brown has been on the books of the Bhoys since the summer of 2007 when he joined from Hibernian for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.4 million.
The former Scotland international midfielder has been a key figure for the Hoops over the years, and has won the Scottish Premiership title eight times, and the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup on four occasions each with the Glasgow giants.
The 33-year-old has revealed that both Newcastle and Tottenham wanted to sign him from Celtic when Tony Mowbray was in charge of the Glasgow giants.
Mowbray, now the manager of Blackburn Rovers in the Championship in England, was at the helm at Celtic from June 2009 until March 2010.
Brown told The Daily Record: “It hit me like a hammer when he told me to find a new club. I didn’t want to leave. I enjoyed playing for Celtic and all my family were here. But now I’m being told to find myself a new club.
“I had to get back on the phone and tell people I think I might be free to leave in January. Then all these offers start coming in and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Well, whatever happens happens’.
“I had an offer from Newcastle. There had been also interest from Harry Redknapp at Spurs and I was waiting to find out if he was still wanting to do something. So I’m sitting there thinking if I should go or not.”
New contract
Brown is now one of the best and most combative midfielders in the Scottish Premiership and remains a key figure in Brendan Rodgers’s side despite being 33 years of age.
The Scotsman recently told STV that he is speaking to Celtic over a new contract.
