Celtic skipper Scott Brown suggests he can’t see Rangers pipping the Hoops to Scottish Premiership glory, despite the form.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Speaking to The Glasgow Evening Times, Scott Brown seems confident that Celtic can hold off the challenge of Rangers and Aberdeen to pick up a seventh successive Premiership title this season.

The Hoops’ 0-0 draw with St Johnstone on Sunday has seen Rangers and the Dons cut the gap to nine points from Brendan Rodgers’s side at the summit.

Since then, a number of people within the game have speculated as to whether catching Celtic is possible, with Gers-associated Daniel Candeias and Joey Barton suggesting that a miraculous recovery could be on the cards.

It isn’t as ridiculous as it once seemed, especially given that the Bhoys have dropped a total of seven points in their last six Premiership games – including a 1-0 defeat at Kilmarnock.

The Premiership leaders beat Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 in the first leg of a last-32 contest at Parkhead last week, and captain Brown believes that if he and his team-mates can beat the Russians then nobody in the domestic game poses a realistic threat to them.

“We’ll be fine. We just need to get back to killing teams off and doing what we have been doing for a while now,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.

“We need to do it against Zenit, but it was a good performance in the first leg, with the ball and the way we pressed. We put a top quality team under pressure and if we can do that against them then we can do it in the SPFL.

“We need to get back to doing the hard stuff instead of thinking the games are going to be easy.”

It’s still a long shot for Rangers or the Dons, but Graeme Murty’s outfit certainly have the momentum on their side and they simply have to beat Hearts on Saturday to keep the pressure on Celtic, who don’t play until the Sunday when Aberdeen host them at Pittodrie.
