Celtic’s Scott Brown offers a worrying verdict on Scottish football following an incident involving Rangers’ James Tavernier.

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has told The Daily Mail that he believes fans could attack opposition players with weapons in the future, after the unsavoury incident involving Rangers’ James Tavernier.

Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Easter Road was overshadowed by a Hibernian fan who ran on to the field to confront the English defender.

Leeann Dempster condemned the supporter, who has been given a lifetime ban by the Edinburgh club.

That incident came only a week after Celtic winger Scott Sinclair had a glass bottle thrown in his direction during the Hoops’ win at Hibernian.

Brown has called the latest incident a ‘disgrace’ and believes that it isn’t unthinkable for supporters to sneak weapons on to the field soon.

“It is a disgrace,” he told The Daily Mail. “You can’t have fans running on the park and trying to hit players or kick players or kick the ball.

“You just don’t realise it is happening when someone runs up to you. Luckily enough, they don’t have something to hit you with because that is going to be the next thing – someone is going to run on the park and hit someone with something.”

It’s a worrying prediction by the Celtic captain, simply because it’s true. If opposition fans are given access to players, as was the case with the Rangers skipper on Friday, then what’s to stop them from having weapons in their possession?

Incidents of this nature don’t paint Scottish football in a flattering light and the sooner something is done, the better.
