Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has told the Daily Record that he thought he played poorly for Scotland last night, despite picking up the Man of the Match award.

Celtic youngster Christie was one of Scotland’s few bright sparks in their 4-0 defeat against Roberto Martinez’s side.

The Bhoys midfielder harried and pressed from the front, but he was unable to stop Scotland falling to a heavy defeat.

And Christie showed just how high a standard he set for himself, as the Celtic man was not at all pleased with the way he performed on the ball.

“It’s nice to get voted, but it’s not really lifted my spirits,” Christie said.

“I wasn’t really happy with my performance at all. When you get the ball in good areas against these teams, you need to make it count.

“I didn’t have enough shots or create enough chances, but that’s on me and the other attacking boys.”

Christie’s profile has risen quickly over the past two seasons, as he has become a key player for both Celtic and Scotland.

Ryan Christie of Celtic celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The youngster’s high standards are undoubtedly part of the reason for this, as he demands the very best out of himself.

Scotland have endured a miserable international break after losing to both Belgium and Russia in their two games.

Christie will be hoping to taste victory again when he returns to Celtic’s side at the weekend, with Neil Lennon’s men due to face Hamilton.
