Scottish Premiership champions Celtic tried and failed to sign Atalanta’s Serie A flyer Timothy Castagne in the January transfer window.
Timothy Castagne is a target for AC Milan this summer after Celtic failed to sign the Belgian international during the January transfer window, as reported by Calciomercato.
Castagne has had a fine season in Italy with Atalanta, his swashbuckling and attack-minded style catching the eye of clubs all across the continent – including Scotland.
Gianluca di Marzio claimed recently that Celtic had tabled an £8.8 million bid for the right-back, who they seemingly viewed as a long-term replacement for veteran Swede Mikael Lustig and the out of favour Costa Rican Cristian Gamboa.
Atalanta rejected their bid, however. And now Castagne has interest from elsewhere – five time Champions of Europe AC Milan.
According to Calciomercato, Milan’s sporting director Leonardo is a big fan of the 23-year-old former Genk ace, particularly given his ability to play on the right or the left of defence. Castagne has scored or assisted five Serie A goals in the Italian top flight this season.
Celtic may well renew their interest given that Lustig is out of contract and Jeremy Toljan is set to return to Borussia Dortmund but the task has just got a lot harder with Milan now in the mix.
