Roberts put Celtic ahead at the home of his parent club, Manchester City.

Celtic winger Patrick Roberts has taken to Twitter after scoring against parent club Manchester City on Tuesday.

Roberts struck in the fourth minute at the home of his full-time employers, who hit back four minutes later through Kelechi Iheanacho.

Afterwards, the England Under-20 international, who celebrated his goal, described the moment as “priceless” on Twitter.

Lucky for City, they had nothing riding on the game, having already qualified to the Champions League’s last-16 as Group C runners-up, while Celtic were playing for pride after being resigned to a fourth-place finish.

The Bhoys perhaps had the best chances to win the game, although top scorer Moussa Dembele was far from his clinical best and substitute Leigh Griffiths spurned a decent opportunity late on.

Like Roberts, both posted messages after the match on Twitter.

“End of the CL campaign for us bhoys, my 1st experience was a great feeling & glad to share it with you. We’ll be back stronger,” wrote Dembele.

And Griffiths posted: “Delighted to be back on the pitch, should’ve scored my chance though. We go again on Friday night. Support was immense as ever.”

Celtic can now focus their attention on winning the Premiership, having failed to qualify for the Europa League.

Brendan Rodgers’ side, who are eight points clear of second-place Rangers with three games in hand, travel to local rivals Patrick Thistle in two days’ time.
