Patrick Roberts is on loan at Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic from Manchester City.

Patrick Roberts of Celtic arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on April 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Manchester City-owned Celtic winger Patrick Roberts has told Sky Sports that he wants to play in the Premier League next season.

Roberts joined Celtic on loan from Premier League side City in January 2016 until the summer of 2017 before returning to the Glasgow giants on yet another loan deal for the 2017-18 campaign.

The 21-year-old former England Under-20 international winger, who earns £1.3 million per year as salary according to Spotrac.com, has said that he plans to test himself in the Premier League next season.

Declan John of Rangers is challenged by Patrick Roberts of Celtic during the Scottish Cup Semi Final match between Rangers and Celtic at Hampden Park on April 15, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Roberts told Sky Sports: “I’ve enjoyed my football [with Celtic] and everyone knows that. But you also have to look at the bigger picture and I have certain ambitions in my head and places that I want to be.

To get there I need to come out of my comfort zone and try to reach those targets, but playing for Celtic has been a dream come true and I’ve enjoyed every minute.”

When asked if he would like to play in the Premier League next season, Roberts said: “Hopefully, that’s the main aim. Being an English player and having come through the system in the Premier League [the ambition] is to play for a top club in the Premier League.”

Goodbye to Celtic?

Roberts’s aforementioned comments suggest that he will leave Celtic for good in the summer transfer window.

The former Fulham youngster has done well during his time at Celtic Park, and he is indeed ready for the next step in his career.

It would be hard for Roberts to break into the City first team, but manager Pep Guardiola is known to give chances to young and talented players who work hard.
