Celtic made just the one signing on deadline day, as they pounced to land Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan.

The Bhoys had already brought in Vasilis Barkas, Shane Duffy, David Turnbull and Albian Ajeti, but still wanted a left-wing back.

Laxalt has pace and attacking ability, and seems to be an ideal fit in Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 whilst being a major coup after two years at Milan.

The 27-year-old will have to adjust quickly to the physicality of Scottish football, but he has experience at the highest level having played at the 2018 World Cup with Uruguay.

Laxalt will at least have one familiar face to connect with at Parkhead, having previously played with Olivier Ntcham at Genoa.

Ntcham played with Laxalt in the 2016-17 season, and they will now hope their prior experience together will help Celtic.

After Laxalt completed his move, Ntcham told Celtic’s official website that the Uruguayan joining the Bhoys is ‘great’ because he’s a ‘very good player’.

Ntcham added that Laxalt is ‘really quick’ and ‘really sharp’, predicting that he will be a good player for Celtic because of his mentality and work rate.

“It’s great that Diego has joined Celtic because he’s a very good player and a very good guy,” said Ntcham. “He’s a really quick player, really sharp and is very motivated. He’ll be a good player for Celtic because he’s got the right mentality and always works hard for the team,” he added.
