James Forrest and Moussa Dembele led Celtic to another trophy on Sunday.
Speaking to Celtic’s official website, Moussa Dembele has paid tribute to team-mate James Forrest after the duo led the Hoops to League Cup glory on Sunday.
The 26-year-old opened the scoring in yesterday’s 2-0 win over Motherwell at Hampden, cutting inside his marker and bending the ball around Trevor Carson – a superb goal, but something that didn’t surprise his team-mate in the slightest.
Dembele, who doubled Celtic’s lead from the penalty spot, told the club’s official website that Forrest has been “great” for Brendan Rodgers’s side and noticed that he is consistently improving.
“His goal was very good for us and afterwards we scored the second,” he said.
“Since I came here he has been great for us and has improved in each game. We have a big squad with good players and that is important for us and I hope he can continue in this way.”
Dembele is right – Forrest is getting better.
By scoring on Sunday, the talented winger bagged his eighth goal of the season and already equaled the amount he got during the entire 2016-17 campaign.
Forrest’s importance to Celtic was evident in the Champions League qualifiers; especially against Rosenborg when his goal was enough to settle a nervy 1-0 aggregate tie.
Former Hoops man Tony Watt claimed on Twitter that Forrest, when fit, is the “best player in that team” – a very bold statement, but one that deserves to be considered.
