Celtic new boy Moritz Bauer has told the club’s official website that he can’t wait to be involved in an Old Firm derby, with a game against Rangers coming up on Sunday.

The Bhoys have needed another right back even after signing Hatem Abd Elhamed earlier this summer, having lost both Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa this summer.

A host of names have been linked in that area of the pitch, but it’s Bauer who has arrived on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City.

Celtic have an option to sign the 27-year-old permanently if he impresses, and he eases Neil Lennon’s fears at right back with two options in place now.

Celtic fans may be forgiven for not being too excited about Bauer, given that he hasn’t played at all this summer and made just six appearances in 2019 in total.

The Austrian has become a forgotten man at Stoke, but Celtic have snapped him up today, in time to face Rangers in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Sunday.

Bauer has immediately commented on that game, admitting that having the chance to play in the Old Firm derby looks ‘absolutely amazing’ and he would love to feature.

Bauer noted that he will be Celtic’s biggest supporter ever for tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Rosenborg, highlighting that he knows just what an important week it is for the Bhoys.

“I will probably be the biggest supporter ever for the game tomorrow and it couldn’t be any bigger for Celtic,” said Bauer. “When I signed for Stoke, four days later I played at Old Trafford and I thought that couldn’t be any bigger. But now, with probably the biggest derby in the world coming up, it looks absolutely amazing.”

“Let’s see how this week goes, but I’m just buzzing for the atmosphere and to be part of the team,” he added.
