Mikael Lustig suffered a broken toe in Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final win against Rangers.
Celtic defender Mikael Lustig has told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen that he expects to be fit to face Old Firm rivals Rangers on Sunday afternoon – despite suffering with a suspected broken toe.
The 31-year-old defender hobbled through the media area in the immediate aftermath of Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Rangers earlier this month, with his toe bandaged.
The versatile defender missed the 2-1 loss to Hibernian last time out, with Jack Hendry replacing him on the right side of defence as a makeshift right-back.
However, in a text message sent to the Swedish outlet, Lustig stated that he expects to be fit for Sunday’s crucial title decider against Graeme Murty’s struggling Rangers: “I have a broken toe, but back to the weekend I hope.”
Lustig has been a mainstay of Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, making 43 league and cup appearances for the Hoops as they close in on a second successive Scottish Premiership title.
The Swede is expected to feature at the World Cup in Russia this summer, but his long-term future at Celtic remains in doubt with only a year left to run on a contract the Daily Star claim is worth £24,000 a week.
