A new Celtic signing is reportedly a big fan of Steven Gerrard at Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.
Celtic pulled off the signing of a reported Rangers target this morning.
The Hoops snapped up Luca Connell on a four-year deal today. It was reported that the teenage star would only cost £250,000, but Bolton released a statement today which claimed that the Hoops ‘agreed to pay substantially more’ than that to sign him.
Prior to him joining Celtic, The Daily Mail claimed that Rangers were actually winning the race for his signature.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard was probably a fan of the 18-year-old midfielder if that’s the case – and the feeling might be mutual.
According to The Irish Independent, Connell, a Liverpudlian, grew up idolising the Liverpool icon, despite being a fan of their Merseyside rivals Everton.
Were the Ibrox side ever really interested?
We’ll probably never know, but what we do know is that Rangers have certainly enjoyed an excellent transfer window so far and nobody at Auchenhowie will be pulling their hair out over missing Connell – especially after signing Joe Aribo.
The Glasgow giants this week announced the signing of Aribo – a 22-year-old who adds to Gerrard’s stable of very talented midfield players.
There is always intrigue when Old Firm clubs go after the same target, but on this occasion there is no need for bitterness; the Bhoys got their man and Gerrard got Aribo.
