Celtic chief was quizzed about Rangers at the club’s AGM.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell was quizzed by fans on a range of issues at the club’s annual general meeting last night – and the topic of opponents Rangers came up.
He asked why Celtic “subsidise the club across the city.”
Lawwell responded to say he disagreed with the suggestion.
He said: “We need to be above that. It’s on an operational basis and it’s very difficult to find alternatives. I don’t accept that we are subsidising Rangers.
“It’s an independent company owned by an individual who lends money to Rangers – but that’s a stretch.”
Celtic fans should be commended for being eagle eyed as to spot the link and they were right to ask the question if it concerned them.
Lawwell’s response may not pacify supporters who would rather their club have no connection to any businesses connected to rivals Rangers.
Celtic are enjoying a period of total dominance in Scottish football and next face Rangers at home on December 30 in the Premiership.
