Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has avoided a ban after the Ibrox stopper kicked out at the defender.

McGregor was Rangers’ star of the show at Parkhead at the weekend, producing a number of fine saves to keep Celtic at bay before Olivier Ntcham scored the game’s only goal.
But, while McGregor’s display was lauded, he perhaps did not receive the praise that his performance itself potentially deserved due to an incident in the first-half where he kicked out at Ajer while the Hoops ace was on the floor following a set-piece.
Many expected the goalkeeper to receive a ban, but he has escaped retrospective punishment. But Ajer did not seem to be particularly annoyed at the fact that the Gers ace will not miss any games once the domestic season resumes.
“That’s what can happen in the heat of battle,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun, when asked about the incident.

“It was an innovative dead ball where everyone is pushing. Such situations emerge and come in tough games.”
And when asked about McGregor avoiding a ban, he said: “There’s not much about the situation I want to comment on.”

It was a surprise that McGregor avoided the ban. It is definitely a boost for Steven Gerrard’s men as they look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season.
Meanwhile, Celtic went into the break off the back of four wins and a draw in their previous five games in all competitions, and they will be looking to close the three point gap separating them from the current league leaders.
