Ajer has barely featured under Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers and looks set to leave Celtic Park in January.

Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer expects to join an English Championship club on loan, the Norwegian is quoted as telling the Scottish Sun.

Ajer was signed by Brendan Rodgers’ predecessor Ronny Deila and has barely featured under the Ulsterman this season.

The 18-year-old, though, insists that Rodgers strongly believes in him, and is keen to impress the Bhoys boss away from Celtic Park in the second half of the campaign.

And, having taken on extra training sessions in a bid to improve his physical condition over the past six months, versatile Ajer sees his future at centre-half.

“My aim is to become the best defender in Norway – I feel like I have taken a huge step in the last six months,” he is quoted as telling the Scottish Sun.

“I come into training an hour before everyone else to improve my physical strength and then I train with the first team. I have put on seven kilogrammes since I got here and I feel the training environment at Celtic is so important.

“The fact that I have converted to a defender means it will take more time for me to establish myself.

“Brendan Rodgers has told me he strongly believes in me for that position. But I need to play at the highest possible level and presumably, I will be loaned out in January.

“It will probably be the second tier in English football, but the main thing is to get playing time.”

No destination has yet been mentioned for Ajer, who already has more than 50 appearances to his name in Norway’s top flight.

His form for previous club IK Start saw Celtic hand him a trial in January 2016, before a four-year deal was struck ahead of the summer transfer window.

The six-foot-five Norway Under-19 international can also operate as a central midfielder.
