Celtic’s Kieran Tierney reveals post-match messages of support from Liverpool equivalent Andy Robertson.

Andrew Robertson of Liverpool during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Liverpool at Selhurst Park on March 31, 2018 in London, England.

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney has revealed to The Daily Mail that he receives post-match messages from Liverpool star Andy Robertson, whom he says is an avid fan of the Parkhead side.

Scotland have two of the best young left-backs around at the moment, with Tierney, 20, closing in on a double treble with Celtic, while Robertson could and certainly should be playing a Champions League final with the Reds next month after Tuesday’s 5-2 demolition of Roma in a first-leg semi-final.

Boasting such impressive options in the same position will cause problems for Scotland boss Alex McLeish down the line, given that both are far too talented not to start every game.

But despite the rivalry at the international level, Tierney reveals that he is friends with the Liverpool man and raved about his compatriot’s latest’s performance, though admits that he could never envisage winning such a prestigious competition with any other side except Celtic

He told The Daily Mail: “It was a great performance from him and he’s been great this season, he deserves to be there, but for me when I was younger, it was Celtic.

“If you want to play in the Champions League you play in it with Celtic and that’s just the way it has been for me.

“He will message me after some big games if we win and I will message him as well. We know each other from the Scotland trips and he’s a Celtic fan as well!”

Robertson was released by Celtic as a youngster, so discovering his allegiances to the Hoops isn’t all that surprising.

The 24-year-old, who joined Liverpool in a £8 million deal from Hull City last summer, is sure to be tuning in on Sunday as Brendan Rodgers’s side look to beat Old Firm rivals Rangers to clinch a seventh successive Premiership title.
