Jeremie Frimpong hasn’t been heavily involved in Celtic’s senior side yet.
John Kennedy has revealed that Jeremie Frimpong’s training-ground exploits indicate to him that the Celtic new boy has a ‘very bright future’ in football.
The 18-year-old defender has managed only 79 minutes of senior football since joining the Bhoys from Manchester City in August.
His debut came in the 5-0 demolition of Championship side Partick Thistle in the League Cup last month.
More opportunities to impress manager Neil Lennon could be few and far between.
Not only is Moritz Bauer ahead of the right-back in Lennon’s pecking order, but Hatem Elhamed is too.
Nevertheless, Frimpong is clearly one for the future and according to Kennedy, a first-team coach at Lennoxtown, the teenager is well equipped to be a big deal over the coming years.
He told Celtic View: “We’ve seen what he has to offer in training and in terms of how we play. He’s a modern-day full-back and ticks so many of those boxes. His speed and intensity is good, he can defend in one-v-one scenarios and he can get forward.
“He has a very bright future if he keeps working hard. It’s our job to keep developing him and making him better. When the time comes and the manager chooses to stick him in, I’m sure he’ll have more of those performances because he’s a talented player.”
The Hoops’ next League Cup outing is a semi-final with Hibernian at Hampden Park on November 2.
And considering that the Treble treble winners are going for a fourth successive title, you could forgive Lennon if he played his strongest team and that, unfortunately, is bad news for Frimpong, despite playing the previous round.
