Celtic’s John Kennedy emerges as third favourite to be St Mirren’s next manager

The Celtic coach is still awaiting his first solo role.

Celtic’s John Kennedy has emerged as third favourite to become the new manager of St Mirren with bookmaker Ladbrokes.

Jack Ross’s departure for Sunderland on Friday has left the Paisley side with a void to fill ahead of their return to the Premiership next season.

And Kennedy, who works as Brendan Rodgers’ first team coach at Celtic Park, is 11/2 to take charge of the Buddies, behind their former midfielder Jim Goodwin (9/2) and local lad Robbie Neilson (4/1).

However, Goodwin, the Alloa manager, and Neilson, who had two impressive seasons as Hearts boss, could be preferred to the 34-year-old, who has never coached outside of Celtic.

Kennedy, a former Bhoys defender, retired from playing aged just 26 and was handed a place on Ronny Deila’s backroom team in 2014.

Other notable contenders include the recently sacked Rangers caretaker manager, Graeme Murty (14/1), and Kennedy’s one-time Celtic teammate, Alan Stubbs (16/1).
