Celtic winger James Forrest has been very impressed by Ryan Christie since he returned from injury.

James Forrest of Celtic celebrates his goal (Celtics 1st)with Stuart Armstrong during the Betfred Cup Final at Hampden Park on November 26, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

James Forrest has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he has been very impressed by Celtic’s Ryan Christie in pre-season training.

Christie has returned to training with Celtic this summer, after his season was cut short last term, when he was knocked out in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Christie was devastated to miss out on playing for Celtic in their final few matches as they won two more trophies to add to the League Cup which they had lifted earlier in the campaign.

However, Christie seems to have used that set-back as motivation, as he has come back in excellent form for the Bhoys.

The young midfielder was arguably Celtic’s best player in their 3-1 win over FK Sarajevo in midweek, as Neil Lennon’s side got their competitive campaign off to a good start.

And £10 million attacker Forrest (The Times) said: “Ryan made a massive impact in the middle of the park. You think back to that spell last season when he was on fire for a few months. He got that bad injury but he’s looked really strong over the pre-season campaign.

“In training, it’s like he has never been away and he took that into the Sarajevo game. He was on great form and I think he’s going to be a big player for us again this season.”

Celtic scored their goals against Sarajevo through Michael Johnston, Odsonne Edouard and Scott Sinclair.

Celtic’s progress to the next round of Champions League qualifying now looks certain, with the second leg due to be played next Wednesday.
