Craig Gordon hasn’t played a league game for Celtic this calendar year.
Fraser Forster has admitted that Craig Gordon could be forgiven for being frustrated with his situation at Celtic.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper hasn’t kicked a ball for Celtic in a Premiership game since a 1-0 defeat by Rangers last December.
An injury to Scott Bain in August saw Gordon come in for big Champions League and Europa League qualifiers, but Hoops boss Neil Lennon then re-signed Forster from Southampton on a season-long loan, sending his rival back to the bench.
Since Forster has arrived, the veteran has only managed to play in two League Cup games and having started just one game in 20 months for the Premier League side prior to re-joining the Bhoys, the English keeper knows exactly how his team-mate is feeling.
Forster, who joined the Saints for £10 million from Celtic in 2014, told The Scottish Sun: “It’s hard being a keeper when you’re not playing, it can be so frustrating, so I know more than anyone how Craig Gordon feels just now.
“All I’ve ever tried to do when I’ve been out is be the best guy for the one who’s playing, because that’s just the way it goes.”
Forster will keep the gloves this afternoon as Lennon’s side – who sit top of the Premiership – visit Livingston.
Gordon is likely to remain as Celtic’s number two, even after Bain returns from his dislocated thumb, but it seems very unlikely that he’ll be displacing Forster any time soon.
