Erik Sviatchenko had to be replaced after just 25 minutes of Celtic’s Champions League qualifier with Rosenborg.
Erik Sviatchenko has taken to Twitter to confirm that he is awaiting the results of a scan after being taken off in the early stages of Celtic’s Champions League second qualifying round second-leg tie with Rosenborg on Wednesday, explaining that he is hoping and praying for a positive outcome.
Sviatchenko started the game in Norway but had to be replaced after just 25 minutes after a collision forced him to be substituted and replaced by midfielder Nir Bitton – who performed very well in his less familiar position.
After the game, the 25-year-old took to social media to confirm that he had a scan on the injury, and, perhaps ominously, suggested that he was praying for positive news, while also expressing his delight that the team booked their place in the play-off round, one step closer to the group-stages.
The Dane had only just returned to training after missing the first-leg due to a groin injury, so this latest setback will undoubtedly be a major blow for him, especially if the scan suggests that he is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Sviatchenko would have been hoping to make a positive impact for Brendan Rodgers’ men having recently been linked with a move away from Parkhead.
The Daily Record suggested that the Hoops would be open to considering selling the centre-back permanently with Besiktas interested in him, which may have suggested that he may not be at the top of Rodgers’ pecking order, and thus, shining in a European game may have been extremely beneficial to him.
