Daniel Arzani will never develop under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

Quite a lot of Celtic’s squad will have been very disappointed at Brendan Rodgers’s decision to leave last week.

The Northern Irishman quit the Hoops to join Leicester City and left behind a squad of saddened players, many of whom didn’t get the chance to say goodbye.

For many of them, the disappointment will be related to sentiment. After all, Rodgers had guided them to historic back-to-back domestic trebles and, on an individual level, helped bring their game to the next level.

Daniel Arzani will have been hoping for Rodgers to do the same with him and, as a result, the young Australian winger might be annoyed with the former Bhoys boss.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Parkhead club on a two-year loan from Manchester City, revealed to the Sydney Morning Herald that a phone call from Rodgers ‘swayed’ his decision.

It’s entirely possible that Arzani will have punted for Parkhead in the hope that Rodgers could help to develop his game, as he did for many others at Lennoxtown.

But with his season-ending injury in November, coupled with the fact that the person who convinced him to join Celtic is now gone, the youngster has a case for feeling aggrieved.

Celtic is still a massive club with or without Rodgers at the helm, and Arzani, when he recovers from his ACL injury, will be determined to have a glittering full season in Glasgow next term, but this isn’t quite what he signed up for.
