Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has commented on his performance against Red Bull Salzburg.
The goalkeeper dropped a clanger to put Celtic 2-0 down, emulating Loris Karius’ first mistake in the Champions League final.
Fortunately for Gordon, Celtic managed to qualify.
Celtic lost 2-1, and went through because Rosenborg scored a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with RB Leipzig.
Speaking after the game, Gordon said that overall he felt he played quite well.
He told BBC Sport that he feels fortunate that his error was not decisive.
Gordon said: “He’s blocked the throw and scored. It was very unusual to concede a goal like that. I’m annoyed about it, but that sometimes happens in football.
“Overall, I thought I had a fairly good game, but that moment is a little bit of a blow.
“But sometimes these things happen. I’m just ever so grateful that it hasn’t cost us going through.”
Celtic will have to decide whether to stick with Gordon when the Europa League resumes in February.
This depends on his form between now and then, and him showing that he will not repeat this error.
Celtic have an able deputy in Scott Bain, who kept goal for their Scottish League Cup run and achieved a clean sheet in the final win.
