Scotland narrowly beat San Marino 2-0 this evening.

Scotland recovered from their midweek hammering at Kazakhstan to pick up a win over San Marino, though the 2-0 victory wasn’t exactly convincing.
That 3-0 thrashing in Nursultan on Thursday had left boss Alex McLeish under huge pressure, but a game against the lowest-ranked nation seemed ideal.
An early header from Kenny McLean settled the nerves for Scotland, but fans were hoping to see Scotland completely overwhelm San Marino – but that didn’t happen.
McLeish’s side were unconvincing and sloppy throughout, and it took until the 74th minute for Scotland to finally grab the second goal, as Johnny Russell pounced to score.
Scotland will simply be glad to have avoided embarrassment against the minnows, but the boos at full time from travelling Scotland fans summed up the frustration with the display.
A number of players weren’t at their best, and midfielder Callum McGregor received much of the criticism for his performance in the win.

The Celtic man was in a holding midfield role but struggled to impact the game, often passing sideways or backwards whilst generally being sloppy.
Fans took to Twitter to absolute slate McGregor, calling him ‘absolutely dreadful’ and ‘shocking’, with even Celtic fans admitting that he was ‘poor’ – though some believe he was saving himself for the Old Firm derby with Rangers next Sunday…
