Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers plays down a move for Danny Ings.

Brendan Rodgers has told Sky Sports that he has no plans to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings this summer.

Sky Sports have claimed that Celtic have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old.

Earlier this month, Rodgers tied up an £8 million permanent deal to sign Odsonne Edouard, who spent last season on loan at Parkhead from Paris Saint-Germain.

And with Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele also in the ranks at the moment, the former Liverpool manager, who signed Ings in 2015, says that he will not be going for the ex-Burnley star.

Dnny Ings of Liverpool warms up prior to the Premier League 2 match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at The Lamex Stadium on February 5, 2018 in Stevenage, England.

He told Sky Sports: “Danny is a fantastic player and has been really, really unfortunate for a few years with injury but I have got the three strikers at the moment and we don’t need any more.

“We just signed young Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal and he is a class act. We also have Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths so with those three we are well covered.”

Of course, Dembele’s future is hardly set in stone, so it will be interesting to see if Rodgers does go for Ings in the event that the linked-away French striker leaves.

Ings has endured a rotten three years at Liverpool due to injury, but he has been consistently fit for much of 2018 and the former Clarets hitman is clearly someone who would improve Celtic quite a lot.
