Ryan Christie suffered what looked a bad injury for Celtic on Thursday night.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic star Ryan Christie was using crutches after his injury against Salzburg on Thursday.

The in-form midfielder was stretchered off in the 58th minute of the 2-1 defeat, after being accidentally kicked in the back of a leg in his attempt to block a shot.

Rodgers is yet to reveal the full extent of the problem, but confirmed that the 23-year-old, whose stock has risen remarkably in recent months, is not walking unassisted.

“It looked a sore one,” said Rodgers to The GET.

“I saw him down there in the distance on crutches when I was doing an interview, so it’s a shame for him because he has been in incredible form and rhythm.

“He’s a huge loss to us but we will assess it and see how the damage is in the next couple of days. He has been a very important player.”

Rodgers isn’t exaggerating when he describes Christie as a ‘huge loss’, because the youngster has been nothing short of exceptional for Celtic since October and time will tell how his absence affects the Hoops.

Fortunately, the Northern Irishman has a wonderful squad at his disposal, so Olivier Ntcham, who replaced him against the Austrian side, is likely to come back into the first XI when the Premiership leaders visit Hibernian tomorrow afternoon.

Ntcham, a £4.5 million signing from Manchester City, is also a brilliant player and one who missed a bit of football earlier in the campaign through injury, allowing Christie to dazzle in the first XI, but it remains to be seen if the Frenchman is at his best, considering he has been used sparingly over the past two months.
