Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata seems to rate Tottenham Hotspur duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen and Manchester City star Vincent Kompany highly.

Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata has listed Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld among examples to follow, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

Boyata is part of the Belgium national football team for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia this month.

The 27-year-old Celtic centre-back will be aiming to make an impact for Roberto Martinez’s side in Russia.

The former Manchester City defender has listed Spurs centre-back Alderweireld – who is on the radar of Manchester United according to The Mirror and earns £75,000 per week as salary as reported by The Daily Star, among the players he looks up to.

Alderweireld’s Tottenham teammate Jan Vertonghen as well as City defender Vincent Kompany are Boyata’s other examples to follow in the Belgium national football team.

Boyata told The Scottish Sun: “The likes of Vincent, Jan and Toby, they are experienced players and so it is always good to be around that type of player.

“I talk a lot with them and they are a very good example. I have known them for years now. The relationship with the other defenders is very good, and that is all that matters.”

Unlikely hero?

Injuries to Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen mean that Boyata, who earns £14,000 per week as salary according to The Daily Star, could play a vital role for Belgium at the World Cup, playing alongside Tottenham duo Alderweireld and Vertonghen in a three-man defence.

The former City defender could emerge as an unlikely hero for Belgium, who will be aiming to go all the way in Russia and win the most prestigious footballing competition.
