Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong is set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has informed fans on Instagram that his time in Germany has proved to be a “successful trip” after undergoing hernia surgery on Monday.
The 25-year-old spent the winter break in Dubai with the Celtic squad but the former Dundee United midfielder has only just been operated on, and is set to miss a handful of games during the second half of the season.

The Daily Record claim Armstrong could be targeting a return ahead of the Europa league Round of 32 clashes against Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg, with the first leg kicking off on February 15 while the return is a week later.
But Armstrong will have given fans optimism on Instagram after stating the operation was a success, as he posed the two-word captain next to a picture of himself beaming with delight alongside Celtic’s head physio Tim Williamson.
Armstrong is yet to capture the form that saw him shine for Brendan Rodgers’ side last season, where he scored 17 goals and added seven assists in 47 league and cup appearances for the Scottish champions.
However, this time around he has managed just four goals and five assists in 33 games, and his future is in doubt in Glasgow with Premier League side Southampton reportedly monitoring his situation.
