One Celtic player has been effusive in his praise for another.

Celtic right-back Adam Matthews has been speaking to the club’s official website about his Bhoys teammate Craig Gordon.

The Scotland international goalkeeper arrived at Celtic Park last summer, having not played a competitive match for two years.

However you looked at it, signing the former Sunderland stopper was a risk; but it was one that paid off in brilliant fashion, as Gordon became an integral part of Celtic’s march to a potential treble.

Matthews has seen first-hand the impact Gordon has had at Celtic, and the 23-year-old has praised the ‘keeper in the build-up to the Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

“Craig Gordon has been brilliant since coming in for Fraser (Forster),” Matthews said.

“To be honest, he’s surprised me. I knew he was a good ‘keeper but I thought he would have lost a bit of spring but he’s been excellent for us.”

Gordon has already made 46 appearances for Celtic this season and he looks set to make a few more before the campaign draws to a close.

At just 32, there is no reason why he cannot now go on to make well over 100 appearances for a club who took a risk on him, but are now reaping the rewards of that particular decision.
