Karamoko Dembele made his debut for Celtic’s under-20 side at the age of 13 yesterday.
Celtic youth coach Chris McCart has told the club’s official website that it is important that everyone at Parkhead remembers that Karamoko Dembele is still only 13-years-old.
Dembele rather remarkably made his debut for Celtic’s under-20 side, during their 3-1 with over Hearts yesterday.
The forward came on for the final 10 minutes of the match, and his introduction has caused a great deal of attention to be focused on the youngster.
However, McCart insists that nobody at Celtic can get carried away because of Dembele’s obvious talent.
“What we need to remember, though, is that Karamoko is just 13-years-old,” McCart said.
“He was given a chance to play last night on merit, but it is very important that we continue their development at a measured pace.
“Karamoko is still a young boy and has a lot of growing to do, both physically and mentally. The coaches at our Under 13 and 14 levels have been fantastic in nurturing his potential but it is crucial that we do not push him too far, too soon.”
Dembele has been playing against players older than him for some time now, such is his potential.
The skilful attacker caught the eye at an under-15’s tournament over the summer, when he was named the best player at the competition.
There is now great excitement about Dembele’s future at Celtic, but it is likely to be a few years before he makes his debut for the senior side.
